Huge Taiwanese Grapes… and an Apple for Comparison

Lee Kaifu posts on Sina Weibo an image of "large" Taiwanese grapes, with an apple next to it for comparison.

Just for fun… The following microblog post was one of the most reshared and commented on China’s popular Sina Weibo microblogging service yesterday. It is by Lee Kai-fu, one of the most well known internet figures in China, and perhaps better known as the founding president of Google China until he resigned from the company in 2009.

@李开复: Taiwan’s super large grapes (beside them is an apple). [吃惊] [referring to above image]

Comments on Sina Weibo:

王雯雯雯雯要一次通过司法考试__:

Looks really tasty.

鑫♥宝儿:

Now that’s a small apple.

我是一条失忆狗:

Kai Fu brother, why are you always like taking other fruits and comparing them to apples?

唐tt:

Taiwan’s apples are too small.

LAO徐:

Small apple?

VeraWong2010:

Small apple~

zhangweiwen的私人空间:

Could it be genetic modification?

许东888:

You should be holding them with your hands, and the effect will be even more obvious.

TASAKIlzy:

So cute.

Andyleng:

Not plums?

廖璐:

It’s obviously an extremely small “apple”.

茉莉是茶非花:

Big is not necessarily good, fruit naturally grown is enough.

xiah小姗:

So big I wouldn’t even dare to eat it anymore →_→

湛强威海:

Could there still be people who don’t believe it’s the apple that is small?

张张张峰-:

Why are you always comparing with apples?

强子-柳:

Are your marketing Taiwanese fruits?

郎庸:

How much per half-kilogram?

帅逗的爸:

Where did you find such a small apple?

钦顺仔:

Yet another genetically modified food!!

HHHHHH2IM:

Then would that be an extremely small apple from the Mainland? [吃惊]

张立夫LikaG6:

Everyone come and look at an extremely small apple (beside it are some grapes).

peill:

Teacher Lee, are you sure it isn’t the apple that is too small?

秒杀女皇:

Probably genetically modified, which isn’t a good thing.

没管您的:

Makes me think of golden rice.

[Note: A little while ago, there was some controversy on the Chinese internet and media about American researchers testing the genetically modified rice on Chinese children without the Chinese side’s knowledge.]

Dante24的围脖:

This are plums, right…?

吴婧琳:

Mr. Lee definitely has a problem with apples. The apples express dissatisfaction.

方兴斌的世界:

The dragonfruit you just posted isn’t considered big, but these grapes really are huge.

周辉Will:

That poor apple, being used multiple times for comparison.

黄田细贼:

Old Lee, you brought this apple over from the mainland, right? Why are you always using this apple for comparisons? Haha.

hisos_wl:

Taiwan’s agricultural technology is still comparatively more advanced [than the mainland].

mona_liu170:

Are the grape seeds larger than normal?? I care more about this, haha…

艾林湫:

Uncle Kai-fu, seems like you have something against this apple…haha

不成器的扫地者:

Steve Jobs is unhappy with such a small Taiwanese apple, hires a factory to research and develop a large Apple.

What do you think? Large grapes? Small apple? Plums? Photoshop? Genetically modified? And why is Lee Kai-fu always comparing things to apples?
