A veteran Hong Kong actor who left a message on Weibo saying, “I’m proud I’m a Chinese Communist Party member”, has retracted the statement. Ng Man-tat, originally from Fujian, China, wrote a follow up message to clear things up after netizens expressed their surprise at the revelation, saying, “I’m not a CCP party member. As I was emotional, I forgot to use quotations when using someone else’s words. If anyone has been mislead, I sincerely apologize!” The original post was uploaded at 10:41am on September 3 during China’s WWII military parade in Tiananmen Square. Many netizens agreed patriotism was nonpartisan.
